Paragraph.
I forgot to post about Dan Frey's new work which premiered last week for which I did sound design. The run was very short so unfortunately you can't go see it. But it went really well and I was very happy with the final product. More importantly I was very impressed with the way Dan's work translated to stage. The play is about artificial intelligence (but not robots) existing as computer programs. Do to the nature of the piece it was very difficult to read through, but the translation to stage was beautiful. You can check out the theme I wrote for the piece here. Stray Cat's production of Speech and Debate opened last week too. This one is still open and a great one to go see. I was able to help them as Music Director, although I had little to do cause they were fantastic. It's a very funny show that I recommend for any of you PG-13 crowds. Info is here. It's been a month since I've updated. Sorry about that. Another show is opening this week. This time it's a set design for the Phoenix Theatre's TYA Company, Cookie Co. The show is just adorable called Cinderella Confidential about two reporters eagerly trying to solve the mystery of the missing shoe. Check it out here! Hoover Comes Alive! went really well. It was a great experience and everyone was really happy with the final product. Thanks to the creative team and staff for the wonderful opportunity.
Now it's on to projects back at home. First, Arizona School of the Arts is proud to present a new adaptation of Antigone. As part of the theatre faculty at the school we are working to get the students ready for their fall production of this classic tale set in an all girls boarding school entitled, The Seven Against Thebes: An Antigone Tale (Based on Antigone by Sophocles). I'm currently in La Jolla, CA helping with a new musical, Hoover Comes Alive! I'm here as the assistant to the composer, Michael Friedman. It's been an interesting week so far. A lot of sitting and observing. I try anyway. When your only responsibility is to observe in a 10 hour rehearsal it gets kind of boring. No ones fault, and that's why I'm here.
I did have a great opportunity to sit in on a post rehearsal meeting where the creative team sat with the Administrative staff to discuss the project. It was fascinating the questions they posed. It was helpful for my writing and for the first time this week I really felt like I was hearing "something I came to hear." Whatever that means. If you're in the La Jolla area this week come on down and see the show. Floor seats are only $5. |
